Check Engine light on after new tires installed on '97 land rover discovery?

I had new tires put on, and as i was driving off, the check engine light came on. any idea if the two could be related?Check Engine light on after new tires installed on '97 land rover discovery?
i doubt it

in some cases really shady tire shops that also do light mechanical repairs will sabotage things like sensors to trigger a check engine light in the hope that you will come back and pay them to fix

a lot of tire shops that do other repairs also pay their guys a certain percentage of parts and labour so u can c why thats an issueCheck Engine light on after new tires installed on '97 land rover discovery?
The only light that might be effected by chaining of the tires would the tire pressure monitor light, if so equipped if they damaged one of the sensors on the wheel. Changing tires would have no effect on a check engine light. Check Engine light on after new tires installed on '97 land rover discovery?
Were the tires the same size as the originals??

How can i get rid of the check engine light on my 2000 land rover discovery seires 2?

This is to tell you it need service. some times you can disconnect the battery for 5 min this will reset your computer. How can i get rid of the check engine light on my 2000 land rover discovery seires 2?
Fix whatever is wrong with it.

I really don't mean to sound like a smart-alack, but fixing it will make the light go out.How can i get rid of the check engine light on my 2000 land rover discovery seires 2?
Take it to a automotive repair facility and have them "read" the code this will get you going in the right direction on finding out why the light is on in the first place. The OBD2 system (on board diagnostics 2) that you have in your truck is designed to activate that light when it detects a problem with your emissions control equipment which includes sensors that monitor actual emissions, fuel management, and emissions reduction controls to name a few things. It is in your best interest to get it looked at as if you leave it be, it could develop into something more serious and expensive over time. How can i get rid of the check engine light on my 2000 land rover discovery seires 2?
Check and close tightly the gas cap first and drive it to reset itself if indicator still on take it to a repair facility to read the code.

How do i remove the starter on a 1999 Land Rover Discovery?

There is a heat shaft or box around it. what tool do i use to remove the box?How do i remove the starter on a 1999 Land Rover Discovery?
The heat shield is bolted to the engine mount bracket. You may have to remove the exhaust downtube to get it all apart. This is secured with three nuts to the exhaust manifold. I'm going to tell you a few things here, and pay attention.

Get a look at it and see if you can weasel it out without disconnecting that exhaust tube. If it can be done, good on you, get to it. Likely as not, however, it is going to be a bear to accomplish.

So, if that is the case...

Order a set of exhaust studs for that side, as well as a set of replacement nuts. Also, order a new gasket for the mating surface. Order this from Atlantic British or the Rover dealer, do NOT get this stuff from the parts store.

Then, go to the parts store and pick up a can of Liquid Wrench, and a can of Seafoam DeepCreep spray. You DO need these things.

Determine what size the nuts on the exhaust flange are. There should be three of them. Make sure you have both a stubby and long box end wrench in that size. Make sure you have a ratchet, universal joint, and a couple of extensions that will fit in there, likely 3/8 inch drive. Make sure the socket you use is of good quality, and is a 6 point socket with one of the new surface drive designs.

SOAK the hardware with the Seafoam, and let it sit for no less than 6 hours. Then, and only then, attempt to remove it. If it won't budge, don't force it. Hit it with a load of the liquid wrench, and let it sit overnight.

The next day, come out and remove it.

You will thank the tool gods if you have a Gearwrench in the proper size for this job. It is worth the 15 bucks or so.

If you miss any of these points, you will destroy that hardware trying to remove it. Even if you do it all properly, you can still snap the studs off and round the nuts. That is why you MUST have them ahead of time. If it happens, you want to be ready to solve the problem that second, not in a week when the parts arrive.

I can't remember what size the nuts are, so you will have to check. Likewise, I can't remember if the heat shield will come ff without removing the downtube, but the 250 dollar factory workshop manual I got from the dealer suggests it is required.

If you find you do need to remove this downtube, follow ALL my suggestions. Do NOT try and save a buck and refrain from buying those studs and nuts. Even if you don't round the hardware, you need to replace it, so it doesn't fail in the future. Exhaust hardware should be considered disposable.

Recycle it if you are feeling green.

  • Can anyone solve fuel mixing with oil in the engine of a Land Rover Discovery 1997?

It's one week with the mechanic! He says it's an electrical fault as he tried everything while he says engine is good and there is no starting problem. Tried changing the Electronic Fuel Injection Control Unit once and he said we will try with another unit once again as he could not find any other problem. Can anyone suggest a solution? Many thanksCan anyone solve fuel mixing with oil in the engine of a Land Rover Discovery 1997?
have your rings tested, also check for to much gas being sprayed in to the engine or any run off after the engine has shut off,

Is a Land Rover a good car to buy?

I want a Land Rover but don't know if it's good car to buy?????Is a Land Rover a good car to buy?
If you have a lot of extra $ laying around and nothing to spend it on, go for it. These are not cheap to own/operate.Is a Land Rover a good car to buy?
land rover is a great car, very safe, cant be outdriven in the snow or offroad, great interior, rich leather, awesome sound system.full time 4 wheel drive. very luxurious.

the downside is that they are expensive to maintain. they always tend to have oil leaks, and "quirky" problems, stuff that will nickel dime you to death. if you dont drive them at highway speeds alot then you can get into engine problems, which can be costly.also parts tend to be expensive.

the range rover is probably the highest to maintain, while the freelander was a major dissapointment, thats why they discontinued it.

the best one to own is the discovery, i own 2 series 1,1996 and 1995. the bodies on series 1 and 2 are mostly aluminum, so they tend to be "top heavy" but rest assured they have so much weight on the bottom "unsprung weight" there is no way they will tip over. i drive both mine over 100 mph and they are fine. granted it is a very heavy vehicle, its no sports car.ive also seen many of these trucks with over 200K miles and even a few with over 300k

people either love them or hate them, i hated them, then i work for/on them for 7 yrs now at a dealer, and i love them. i cant wait to get my next one.

all i can say, is go take one for a ride, youll find out quick wether its good enough for you. if you got extra cash you can spend, and money in the bank, then go for it! if not then i would highly recommend the toyota line. great company. hope it helps, and good luck.

ps these vehicles hold their value like no other. Is a Land Rover a good car to buy?
they're ok. nothing great. just don't get a discovery; they're top heavy and flip easy. get the range rover or freelander if you're gonna get one. quality isn't that great. mileage pretty much sucks for the power you get. they're more a status symbol than anything.

bottom line it's not junk but you can do better for the money.
Like the other ones said, if you have a bunch of cash. Repairs are astronomical (as with any other luxury car), and they're gas hogs. Also, I talked to a mechanic who claimed that they're one of the only engines that CAN blow out after 40k. I'd say no just because of the cost to maintain one.

What is the best gear to drive a land rover discovery in on local roads?

I'm afraid to do damage to the trans is it low on local and high on highwayWhat is the best gear to drive a land rover discovery in on local roads?
Drive in high always. Low is for low speed 4 wheel off road use only. What is the best gear to drive a land rover discovery in on local roads?
keep in third on local roads at least. downhill be in neutral to save your clutch and just use your brakes. Lower gears means more RPMs which means more ware and tare and less gas mileage. try not to downshift unless you have to stop.
