How reliable is a Land Rover Freelander or Discovery?

I am looking to buy a new car! I have had two Freelanders, both of which have given me grief! the 1st one on a S reg I blew the Head on at 65000 miles! I had it repaired %26amp; sold it. I bought a newer one on a 02 plate %26amp; the head has just gone on that one too, at just over 27000 miles! It's now in the garage waiting to be done (under warrenty) ! I'm sick of being brain washed by the "sales man" who treats me like the typical "little woman" so I thought I'd ask the real people out there. Should I go for another Freelander? or up-grade to a Discovery? How reliable is a Land Rover Freelander or Discovery?
Why don't you look up the reliability of the vehicle you're planning to purchase before purchasing them. "Sales men" are treating you like a "little woman" as you call it because you're allowing yourself to buy into their tactics.

There are so many sites that offer reliability ratings, you should be able to make a knowledgeable choice with a little research.

This site gives reliability ratings on cars and how they have been holding up:

Go to the library and check out the consumer report's buying guide. They give reliability ratings there for each car. (Or you can purchase Consumer Reports and pay a little for their web site.

Also check out JD Powers and associates ratings on quality.

It will give you the power to determine what vehicles have the best reliabilty.
I hate to say it but go Japanese, much better reliability. How reliable is a Land Rover Freelander or Discovery?
Agree with Alfred
I hate to say this but I've had lots of British %26amp; American 4 x 4's but the best I've had (and still have) is Japanese - Pajero or Shogun in the UK - The best by far.How reliable is a Land Rover Freelander or Discovery?
dont do it me cliant did an insurance job 2 weeks ago just to get rid honist they are c.r.a.p.

ps i have a friend who carnt wait to get rid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
According to major auto evaluations the Land Rover is on the bottom of the J. D. Powers rating for quality. Stay away from English built and go with American or Japanese. The Japanese seem to have the best resale value.
I drive a Range Rover Classic 3.5 V8 built in 1989 and i starts first time every time and runs like a dream, nothing major has gone wrong with it, nothing i can't fix myself, it would amaze you where you can drive these 4x4. All other 4x4's are second rate.
Dont buy any vehicle with the 1.8 K series engine. The head gaskets always blow (mgtf,rover/mg 75, freelander). Max life of head gasket 60,000 miles (mgtf 30,000 miles) Diesel ok either auto or manual transmission. Older discos rot boxes, rear floor and rear chassis members.
sorry to say it but they are almost of the coupon for reliability and build quality,i expect the company will eventually fold, you can only trick so many people, you need to look at any Japanese vehicle for reliability.forget the whole l/r range even range rover, just imagine how you feel when you realise you have spent 80k on a real lemon,i would even go as far as to say they are not fit for purpose.
You should avoid Land Rover altogether, and buy a Japanese vehicle. Land Rovers are sh*it. Notorious for head gasket failure, and many other faults. Crap of the first order. Get a beautifully engineered and ultra-reliable Japanese 4x4. If you have been stung twice by Land Rover, don't let them get you a third time.

In Australia they have an axiom: If you want to go into the bush, use a 4x4, if you want to return alive, make sure it's a Toyota.
Not very buy jap sorry.
freelander and discovery are not reliable which is a shame.

toyota, mitsubishi are good make sure its not an import, buy british
Ms. I don't want to discourage you but, I bought my wife a 02 FreeLander and we haven't driven the vehicle a straight 30 days, it's in the shop right now getting a new engine under warranty. If I could get rid of this vehicle I would. I've heard nothing but, negative things about the Freelander. I'm really not a fan of Land Rover period, I had to fight them with nail and tooth just for them to honor the warranty. I have 46000 miles, I'm the second owner. The first owner traded it in at 43000 miles with alot of Service issues that were just brought to my attention. Good Luck!
