Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?

Jaguar/Land Rover an old established company many jobs at stake,

Woolworth's 30,000 jobs at stake why help one without the other.

Woolworth's are 99 years old and much a part of every shoppers lives.

Why was Tatar allowed to buy Jaguar/Land Rover if they need money so soon. Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?
Quite simply.. Beacause one is a manufacturing company and the other is a retailer.

Retail wouldn't exist if there was no manufacturing.
woolies was a lost cause a long time back, sad as that may seem, an ailing, out moded, outdated business, that should have firstly not borrowed 300 odd million a while back, as we were already heading for a recession and they had been in trouble for a very long time,

and and we have seen with the car industry, laying off staff or putting them on short time to try and keep them afloat in the long term, much is salvegable, whilst woolies was not.

protect British jobs in the motor industry, thousands still work in it, and its one that we can ill afford to lose.

I am sorry for all the staff who lose jobs, at woolies and elsewhere, but having seen three of their large Londonshops close months ago, knew that they wouldn't last long. Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?
Uk for you
Number one, there is a buyer. Jaguar/Land Rover are renowned branded name in the British manufactures of car and industrial automobile industry. Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?
lots of reasons

Woolworth's is a retailer, there are lots of other companies which will fill the space vacated by Woolworth's.. some would argue they already have.

Woolworths's jobs are scattered around the country as a whole rather than concentrated in a specific region

Woolworth's doesn't support thousands more jobs in the same region.

Woolworth's union, despite bunging millions Labours way doesn't have the same level of leverage as T%26amp;GW within the government

there are many constituencies which would be at risk if Jaguar Land Rover went to the wall, whereas the Wollie employees are acttered throughout the UK, JLR is predominantly midlands based (admittedly there isn't much chance of a change in MP's around the Liverpool plant)

Ford wanted to sell JLR (and have done for several years),TATA wanted to buy, there were no other buyers so TAT bought JLR

I do find it offensive that TATA having boiught JLR and sittign on large cash stockpile deamnd the UK government bail 'em out. expect more such blackmail in th ehnear future.. whether the transplant factories (Honda as Swindon, Toyota at Derby and Nissan in Sunderland) will do the same is a moot point.

I'd be amazed if the UK governemtn can get the bail out to JLR through EU competition laws.. the only proven way to do that is to be French and just ignore the EU when it suits you
