Are you getting really, really, really, large balloon tires, or is there a long new bridge that I have never heard of?
Any insurer will give instant cover over the phone - try

Go to any insurance broker.

You will need nautical insurance cover to enable you to drive over the Irish Sea.How do i insure a classic land rover while driving it from wales to ireland?
Everyone wants the cheapest auto insurance. Everyone is constantly looking comparing this auto insurance provider with this one. It's almost like a parlor game, isn't it. I've done it too. If you've ever gotten a speeding ticket or have a young teenager itching to drive that you've just added to your policy or if you've been involved in an accident, it can get more and more expensive, can't it? Auto insurance is too expensive. You're not alone. it's true for almost every American family. You may get your queires answered here,

The problem for discounts, however, is quality. Many ask is, "Is this cheap auto insurance worth buying? What kind of coverage do I have to sacrifice for a cheaper premium?" What is a small bi-yearly or yearly or monthly bill can become astonishingly high if you cheat on your deductible coverage or coverage amount. You need to therefore really search the different companies for the best, most comprehensive policy. Hope is here. There are good companies out there.
You would have to take out a year's UK insurance. That may be cheap enough for a classic (look in any of classic car mags) but the better solution would be to tell your Irish insurance company what you want to do. I am sure that they will insure it under its UK number to cover you for the trip and then under any new Irish number subsequently allocated.

To all those looking at the question from the USA be aware that this involves insurance in two different countries

I have met this sort of situation before, here http://www.CarInsuranceFree.info/free-car-insurance.htm is the resource I found helpful.

I would just like to tell Fred C, that there is a ferry to Ireland. You can't drive across the water.

Most insurance companies will insure you straight away. I'm with the RAC and they insured me straight away over the phone.
