WhenI start my Land Rover first thing in the morning the idle is very low it does not stall but runs very roug?

After 5 or so min,s it seems fineWhenI start my Land Rover first thing in the morning the idle is very low it does not stall but runs very roug?
It should idle over 1200 RPM cold and then down to 750 RPM hot. Maybe you have a bad Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor that tells the computer how hot or cold your engine coolant is. If the sensor is saying your coolant is hot when you cold start the engine, then the mixture will be too lean causing the rough idle. Of course you first need to have all your standard "tune-up" items checked as well.

you must mean 'low range'?

Put the car in Neutral and see if it'll shift. Sometimes you'll need to let the vehicle move a little for the gears to mesh properly, or even shut off the vehicle to avoid any grinding. How do you get a 2003 Land Rover discovery out of 4 wheel drive?
All Land Rover Discoveries are in permanent four wheel drive - you can select high or low range, and lock the centre diff, but you can't take them out of 4WD.

You will need nautical insurance cover to enable you to drive over the Irish Sea.How do i insure a classic land rover while driving it from wales to ireland?
Everyone wants the cheapest auto insurance. Everyone is constantly looking comparing this auto insurance provider with this one. It's almost like a parlor game, isn't it. I've done it too. If you've ever gotten a speeding ticket or have a young teenager itching to drive that you've just added to your policy or if you've been involved in an accident, it can get more and more expensive, can't it? Auto insurance is too expensive. You're not alone. it's true for almost every American family. You may get your queires answered here,

The problem for discounts, however, is quality. Many ask is, "Is this cheap auto insurance worth buying? What kind of coverage do I have to sacrifice for a cheaper premium?" What is a small bi-yearly or yearly or monthly bill can become astonishingly high if you cheat on your deductible coverage or coverage amount. You need to therefore really search the different companies for the best, most comprehensive policy. Hope is here. There are good companies out there.
You would have to take out a year's UK insurance. That may be cheap enough for a classic (look in any of classic car mags) but the better solution would be to tell your Irish insurance company what you want to do. I am sure that they will insure it under its UK number to cover you for the trip and then under any new Irish number subsequently allocated.

To all those looking at the question from the USA be aware that this involves insurance in two different countries

I have met this sort of situation before, here http://www.CarInsuranceFree.info/free-car-insurance.htm is the resource I found helpful.

I would just like to tell Fred C, that there is a ferry to Ireland. You can't drive across the water.

Most insurance companies will insure you straight away. I'm with the RAC and they insured me straight away over the phone.

Why is the Land Rover Defender so down on power??

I understand that it was never built to break any land speed records, and most people who will actually use a defender probably wont need to go faster than 60 mph at the most (95 Km/h). But the thing is just so damn heavy you'd expect them to give it something with a little more horsepower and an extra 50 to 100 ftlbs of torque. Why is the Land Rover Defender so down on power??
Greater displacement often equals greater fuel consumption. Try getting out and trudging to the nearest BP station when you are in the middle of the Serengeti.

How to add transmission fluid to a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II?

I want to check my transmission fluid level, but I cannot find the dipstick. Is there anybody out there that can help me with this? How do you add %26amp; check the transmission fluid? How to add transmission fluid to a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II?
There is no dipstick, the system is sealed. You have to remove the plug on the transmission to check it. This is generally best accomplished at a shop, where you can pay someone else to endure the pain in the butt that it is.

If you want to do it yourself, just find the top plug and remove it, but I'm warning you, it really is a pain.

I'll usually do it myself if I'm under there anyway doing other things, but if that's all I need done, I let someone else get dirty. It isn't worth the hassle when you consider that it isn't expensive at all to have her up on a lift where you can watch some other bugger curse about it.

  • My 99 Land Rover Disco II is sagging in the rear end. What will it take to fix it?

For the last 2 months its been riding fine but after being parked, the rear end would sag about 60% of the time. Now it is down even when driving and is bouncy as he!!. Does anyone know what part has gone bad and what I should expect to pay at my neighborhood mechanic? My 99 Land Rover Disco II is sagging in the rear end. What will it take to fix it?
I am assuming you have the air suspension in the rear. What you need to do is go on Roversnorth.com, and order the air to coil spring replacement kit. Fairly straightforward install, get it done ASAP.My 99 Land Rover Disco II is sagging in the rear end. What will it take to fix it?
Probably something that has to do with the Air ride suspension. they use air bags to adjust ride heighth per different settings. probably leaky airline, or leaking bag. take it to a shop to have it professionally checked or you might be spending a lot of money throwing parts at it to try and fix it yourself. My 99 Land Rover Disco II is sagging in the rear end. What will it take to fix it?
You might need new shock or strut or new leaf spring
sounds like you need new shocks .you can replace them yourself if you look at the new ones its prety self explanitory

Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?

Jaguar/Land Rover an old established company many jobs at stake,

Woolworth's 30,000 jobs at stake why help one without the other.

Woolworth's are 99 years old and much a part of every shoppers lives.

Why was Tatar allowed to buy Jaguar/Land Rover if they need money so soon. Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?
Quite simply.. Beacause one is a manufacturing company and the other is a retailer.

Retail wouldn't exist if there was no manufacturing.
woolies was a lost cause a long time back, sad as that may seem, an ailing, out moded, outdated business, that should have firstly not borrowed 300 odd million a while back, as we were already heading for a recession and they had been in trouble for a very long time,

and and we have seen with the car industry, laying off staff or putting them on short time to try and keep them afloat in the long term, much is salvegable, whilst woolies was not.

protect British jobs in the motor industry, thousands still work in it, and its one that we can ill afford to lose.

I am sorry for all the staff who lose jobs, at woolies and elsewhere, but having seen three of their large Londonshops close months ago, knew that they wouldn't last long. Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?
    Uk for you
Number one, there is a buyer. Jaguar/Land Rover are renowned branded name in the British manufactures of car and industrial automobile industry. Why are the UK government helping Jaguar/Land Rover and not Woolworth's?
    lots of reasons

Woolworth's is a retailer, there are lots of other companies which will fill the space vacated by Woolworth's.. some would argue they already have.

Woolworths's jobs are scattered around the country as a whole rather than concentrated in a specific region

Woolworth's doesn't support thousands more jobs in the same region.

Woolworth's union, despite bunging millions Labours way doesn't have the same level of leverage as T%26amp;GW within the government

there are many constituencies which would be at risk if Jaguar Land Rover went to the wall, whereas the Wollie employees are acttered throughout the UK, JLR is predominantly midlands based (admittedly there isn't much chance of a change in MP's around the Liverpool plant)

Ford wanted to sell JLR (and have done for several years),TATA wanted to buy, there were no other buyers so TAT bought JLR

I do find it offensive that TATA having boiught JLR and sittign on large cash stockpile deamnd the UK government bail 'em out. expect more such blackmail in th ehnear future.. whether the transplant factories (Honda as Swindon, Toyota at Derby and Nissan in Sunderland) will do the same is a moot point.

I'd be amazed if the UK governemtn can get the bail out to JLR through EU competition laws.. the only proven way to do that is to be French and just ignore the EU when it suits you
